Located in the Anna Dean Historic District of Barberton, this new mixed-use building consists of ground level retail and 60 apartments designed for senior living. Many common areas are integrated throughout all floors of the building such as dining, living, game, fitness, computer rooms, and a library.
Special outdoor amenities include a pedestrian “main street” retail environment, a working green house, and a fourth floor covered veranda located in the turret. The architecture is designed to complement the surviving historic buildings of O.C. Barber's Anna Dean Farm and Estate through the use of brick, stone, and special façade treatments.
Located on an urban site within the heart of the Glenville neighborhood, this project provides 33 affordable units for seniors. Long facades are organized into smaller forms to complement the surrounding architecture and emphasize a pedestrian scale. The building is accentuated by deep roof overhangs with large brackets to minimize solar heat gain while providing classic details and proportions. A tower anchors the community space at the corner of the building, and allows activities to connect to the outside. Amenities within the building include a large central community room with a fireplace, meeting and computer rooms, and an arts and crafts room, designed to encourage regular interaction among residents.
